A Quick Rant About Lady Gaga

Dear JAMMers,

In case you missed it, Lady Gaga performed a record-breaking concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil a couple of days ago. The event, called "Mayhem on the Beach", took place at Copacabana Beach, and was absolutely free. So naturally, over 2.5 million people showed up, making it the most attended concert for any female artist in history. Let that sink in for a minute: 2.5 million people in one place…singing their hearts out for one artist.

Lady Gaga has built a career that has dominated for over 15 years. Hit after hit, she has proven to be a legend in pop music history. So when I heard about this huge concert in Brazil, I wasn’t surprised at the fact that so many people showed up to see her perform. If anyone deserves it, it’s her. But you know what I can’t stop thinking about? That damn Facbeook group.

If you haven’t heard the story already, when Lady Gaga was in high school, she was bullied for her ambition and talent. Apparently, things got so bad that her classmates actually made a Facebook group that was called “Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous.” (Stefani is, of course, her real name.)

Well, I think it’s safe to say that Stefani proved them wrong. She had a chart topping hit only a few years after that group was made and her career has skyrocketed ever since, being just one Tony away from becoming an EGOT.

I just really would like to know what the people in that Facebook group think about her success. They, and I say this respectfully, should be embarrassed. After all they mocked someone who turned out to be one of the most iconic voices of a generation. Why? Because they wanted to be cool? Sigh, kids.

Anyway, go stream Lady Gaga‘s new album “Mayhem”.

Everything’s fine,

Nicole
